Political Prisoners pamphlet

The South Asians for Palestine coalition was formed in 2023 to draw together South Asian-led groups in Britain in solidarity with the Palestine national liberation struggle. It comprises ROT Collective, Nijjor Manush, South Asia Solidarity Group.

This pamphlet on political prisoners brings together contributions from a 2024 teach-in, “They Cannot Extinguish the Moon” Political Prisoners from South Asia to Palestine, hosted by the coalition, and is being published to mark Palestinian Prisoners’ Day on 17 April.

The event title draws from a poem written by the Pakistani anti-imperialist poet Faiz Ahmad Faiz and published while serving as a political prisoner in 1950s Pakistan. He later lived in exile in Beirut, where he met with Palestinian figures such as Edward Said and Yasser Arafat. The poem, initially written in Urdu, was named A Prison Evening.
